AI for CVs and job hunting
AI can help you write a stronger CV and practise for interviews. Used badly, it produces generic text that employers spot. Here's the right way.

Improving your CV
- Paste a job advert and your CV and ask: “Which skills in this advert are missing from my CV? Don't invent experience.”
- “Rewrite these bullet points to show results, using UK spelling.”
- Remove your address and phone number before pasting – the AI doesn't need them.
Cover letters
Ask for a draft, then rewrite the opening and closing in your own words. Mention something specific about the employer. Never claim qualifications you don't have.
Interview practice
- “Act as an interviewer for a [job] role. Ask me one question at a time and give feedback on my answers.”
- Ask for STAR-method examples (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
- Many phone apps allow voice chat – good for practising out loud.
Watch out
Be wary of job “offers” that arrive out of the blue, ask for fees, or move you to WhatsApp – these are common scams. See our safety guide. Free official help: the National Careers Service (nationalcareers.service.gov.uk).
